Solar System Volatiles
One of my primary research areas is modeling the stability and origin of water and other volatile materials (organics, CO2, etc) throughout the (mostly inner) solar system. I examine where different volatile species will be stable, both surface and subsurface, and how they migrate through the regolith on solid surface bodies.
I focus on modeling the stability of volatiles with changes in orbital parameters (obliquity, true polar wander) and in comparing our models volatile stability with spacecraft data such as infrared, neutron spectrometer, laser reflectance, microwave and radar.
Our work on the Moon and Mercury has been highlighted in both Science (2010, 2013) and Nature (2016) and lays the backbone for much of our current understanding of volatile distribution on those bodies. I have also worked on volatiles on asteroids and Mars.
